About us:

Welcome to our family’s piece of history nestled in the heart of Sturgis. It all began 5 generations ago, when our great-great-grandfather, Gregor Cruickshank homesteaded 13 miles east of Sturgis on Alkali Creek, developing three thousand acres into rich grazing lands. In 1896, Gregor purchased the land we still live on today for his brother, Alexander Cruickshank, and in 1925 our Grandma Janet Cruickshank-Lippold was born in the property’s basement, a testament to the deep roots that bind us to this place.

Over the decades, our family’s connection to the land has grown stronger, culminating in the vision of our uncle, who founded Glencoe Camp Resort and operated it alongside the family in the summers until 2012 when it was sold. Gary was instrumental in reviving the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and remained an integral part of the rally and the city’s community throughout his life.

Our uncle’s ambition soared even higher as he erected Kickstart Travel Center in 2001 and The Thunderdome in 2004—a beacon of excitement and entertainment in the Sturgis skyline. The Thunderdome quickly became a hub for thrill-seekers and adventurers from near and far.

Today, William proudly carries the torch, managing the property with dedication and passion since 2021. With each passing year, we strive to honor our family’s heritage while embracing new opportunities to create unforgettable experiences for our guests.

Join us at our beloved property in Sturgis, where history meets hospitality, and every visit is a journey through time and tradition.

Building on this legacy, we expanded our offerings in 2014 with the addition of the Kabins@Kickstart, providing cozy accommodations for those seeking refuge in the midst of their Sturgis adventures.
